Bathroom Renovation Timeline: What to Expect From Start to Finish

One of the most common questions we hear from Bay Area homeowners is: "How long will my bathroom remodel take?" Here's a realistic week-by-week breakdown of what to expect during your bathroom renovation.
Typical Bathroom Remodel Timeline
Week-by-Week Breakdown
Week 1: Demolition & Rough-In
The first week involves removing old fixtures, tile, and drywall. Our crew will also rough in any new plumbing or electrical. This is the messiest phase, but it goes quickly. We use protective barriers to contain dust and debris.
Week 2: Waterproofing & Tile Prep
Proper waterproofing is critical—it's what prevents costly water damage down the road. We use premium systems like Schluter or Go Board. Cement board goes up, and we prepare all surfaces for tile installation.
Week 3: Tile Installation
This is where your bathroom starts to take shape! Floor tile, shower walls, and any accent features get installed. We allow proper cure time between setting tile and grouting to ensure a lasting finish.
Week 4: Fixtures & Finishing
The final week brings it all together: vanity installation, toilet, shower fixtures (we recommend Delta valves), mirrors, lighting, and paint. We do a thorough cleaning and walk-through with you before final sign-off.
What Can Cause Delays?
- Permit delays: Standard permits take about 1 week with a city business license, 2 weeks without
- Material backorders: Order tile and fixtures early to avoid waiting
- Hidden damage: Water damage or mold discovered during demo may need remediation
- Change orders: Deciding to upgrade or change materials mid-project adds time
How to Keep Your Project on Track
- Finalize all selections before demolition begins
- Have materials delivered before the start date
- Make decisions quickly when questions arise
- Trust your contractor's process and timeline
